GENERAL OVERVIEW OF KITE SURFING LESSON CONTENT:

Kite surfing lessons of between 6 - 10 hours duration consist of you learning the basics of kite surfing (both theoretical & practical);

Kite surf equipment safety systems, procedures & rights of way
First up flying of a simple kite
Launching & landing the kite
Exploring the "wind window" – the area in which the kite can fly
Manoeuvring the kite – learning when, where and how hard to pull / push the bar and the resulting pull from the kite
4 & 5 line kites introduction: Rigging & assembling
Generating traction with the kite & other power moves
Re-launching the kite off the water & self-rescue
Body dragging
Controlling the kite with just 1 hand on the bar
One handed body-dragging / directional body dragging / upwind body dragging
Other kite flying skills & tips
Trying with the board

The speed of progression at kitesurfing depends on each individual's ability. Generally one kite surf lesson takes 2 - 3 hours (depending on conditions & location)

Certificates are provided on completion of your kite surf lessons (iko, VDWS)

DETAILED KITESURFING LESSON CONTENT - based on the iko teaching system:
Level 1 – Beginner kite surf lessons:
A:
- How to hold, carry and set up the kite
- Determine wind direction (upwind and downwind), and wind window
- Kite Safety
- Fly a Kite unhooked
- Know how to stop the kite power in case of problem by releasing the bar
B:
- Be aware of the area where the kite can fall
- Recover the kite on land
- Position the kite on request on the wind window edge
- Launch a kite
- Fly the kite in the power zone without crashing the kite
- Untwist the lines keeping the kite flying
- Recover a kite and secure it on land
- Land a kite with the help of an assistant
C:
- Fly a kite hooked in to the harness
- Pilot the kite hooked to the harness with one hand
- Kite relaunch
- Activate the harness release system or quick release
D:
- Perform a downwind course by body dragging using the power of the kite
E:
- Re-launch a kite from the water
- Wind the lines in the water and recover the kite
- Perform a self-rescue in deep water
- Launch a kite alone on land
- Understand that practicing Kitesurfing with onshore wind can be dangerous even with a safety boat

Level 2: Intermediate Kite Surfing Lessons:

F:
- Define if the practice area is safe for practice
- Set up and check the Kite Surfing equipment alone
G:
- Go away from the shore while body dragging AND come back to the shore
- In the water, pilot a kite on both sides of the wind window & with power in the power zone
- Keep the kite stable with 1 hand on the bar
H:
- Know the water start theory: board and body positioning, kite piloting
- Recover the board in deep water and position the feet in the foot-straps and keep the position while flying the kite
I:
- Stand up on the board and ride
- Set up a 4 / 5 line kite alone
- Fly 4 / 5 line inflatable Kitesurfing Kite
- Activate the safety systems of a 4 / 5 line bar
- Adjust the trim system of a 4 / 5 line kite to avoid back-stalling & flying backward in the wind window or to adjust the power
