Kitesurf courses in Weymouth are run at Paracademy Extreme Sports Centre, an IKO & BKSA approved Kitesurfing training centre & one of the very best Kitesurfing schools in the UK.
Paracademy is also the UK’s premier IKO Kitesurf instructor training centre having been established by Neil Godbold (one of the IKO's most senior Examiners).
Kite Surfing lessons are to the very highest strandard. All Kitesurf instructors are IKO (International Kiteboarding Organisation) qualified and many were trained at Paracademy.
The flat, safe water and good winds make Portland harbour a prime Kitesurfing & water sports location - so good that it has been selected as the venue of choice for the 2012 Olympic Sailing competition.
All the required Kitesurfing equipment for your course is supplied, all in good condition and all good quality, from wet suits to kites and of course full insurance cover while under training.
Paracademy Kitesurfing centre has a café, a well stocked shop, changing facilities and showers. The classroom uses the latest teaching aids including audio visual displays and projectors.
Weymouth and Portland, Dorset are at the heart of the World Heritage Coast so there’s plenty to do for the family or your partner while you undertake your course. There’s a great selection of accommodation in the resort not to mention the plethora of cafes, bistros and bars that line the historic Weymouth Harbour. After a good day of water sports activity there’s no better way to unwind and Weymouth caters in abundance.

Beginner – Intermediate 3 day Kitesurfing Courses
The 3 day Kitesurfing course will see you safely through the early stages to a competent beginner kitesurfer. For anyone wishing to try Kitesurfing, lessons at a properly approved Kitesurf training centre are imperative.This course runs over 3 days - weather permitting - and covers all aspects of the Kitesurfing from theory to practical.

Training at Paracademy is by professional Kitesurf instructors, many of whom have passed through the ITC (instructor training course) at this very centre, so you have a guarantee of first class tuition.
Day 1:
- Introduction to Kitesurfing
- Theory of Kitesurfing, the kit and the natural environment
- Develop your understanding of the wind (strength & direction) is of paramount importance for the safe practice of Kitesurfing
- The afternoon of day one is where you will have a hands on session with a power kite on dry land
- Explore the kite’s abilities and performance, where the kite flies best, how to generate power with a kite & all Kitesurfing safety essentials
Day 2:
- Take to the water
- In the shallows you will fly a full size kite boarding kite as you did the day before with a trainer kite
- You will learn the principles of Kitesurfing accompanied by your instructor and with a safety boat on standby
- Soon you will be body dragging – using the power of the kite to pull you through the water
Day 3:
- Introduction to the kitesurfing board
- Learn the basics of the essential water start – using the kite to pull you onto your board
- From here on you’re a Kitesurfer and the learning curve is steep once the basics are mastered
- Certification is by the IKO (international Kiteboarding organisation) and cards will be issued on satisfactory completion of your three day course. Your IKO card allows you to kitesurf and hire Kite Surfing equipment around the globe and is internationally recognised.
Personal / Private Kite Surfing lessons are available on request (dependent on Kitesurf instructor availability).

What to bring with you:
Please bring a towel, swimming trunks or similar and sun screen. Complete sun block (50+) is recommended as you will spend some time looking up at your kite –You may like to bring an old pair of sun glasses too. IKO Kitesurf instructor training courses in Weymouth
We work and combine our own Fluid Feeling Kitesurfing instructor courses with the UK’s premier Kitesurf instructor training centre Paracademy, which runs Kitesurf instructor courses to the highest level.Paracademy is very well known for its work with the IKO and BKSA (British Kite Surfing Association).
Have you been Kitesurfing to a reasonable standard for at least 6 months to a year?
Do you meet the requirements as listed below?
IKO Kitesurf Instructor level 1:
To complete the ITC and qualify as an IKO level 1 kitesurf instructor you must;
- Hold a valid and in date first aid certificate
- An IKO assistant instructor qualification or another sports instruction qualification/experience
- Be a qualified power boat handler to at least
RYA level 2
- Complete your Instructor Training Course (ITC)
- Complete your live logged teaching hours after your initial ITC

IKO instructor conversion courses (IECs):
Being part of the IKO professional kitesurf instructor pro network means you may be able to take the shorter version of the course which is offered to anyone who is already qualified as an IKO snowkite instructor.Core components of the IKO instructor training packages follow the same format whether on land, sea or snow. The tenants of teaching are always the same, so teaching methodology, lesson planning, dealing with learning challenges and so on are common to all IKO courses, enabling the IKO to offer the conversion courses with full confidence. You must still meet the specific personal riding prerequisites of course for this branch of power kite sports.
IKO Assistant Instructor Qualification:
The IKO have an assistant instructor training level. It has been designed to help those kitesurfers without any prior teaching background get into the profession, gain some basic teaching experience and get you ready to take your full ITC.The assistant instructor course is based on a workbook package from the IKO and is delivered at the centre in conjunction with one of the three day beginner courses giving you the full hands on experience of teaching alongside experienced, qualified kitesurf instructors to gain practical knowledge to support the course's more theoretical components.

RYA Powerboat courses
Learn how to powerboat on the ideal coastal training waters of Portland Harbour, Weymouth Bay and Portland Bill.The centre runs a range of powerboat training courses to provide you with everything from your first time in a powerboat through to safety boat, plus a whole range of ancillary skills courses essential to life on the water.
The centre is a fully approved RYA powerboat and first aid training centre, with top classroom and on water facilities.
It has a range of boats available for you to use to give you a full range of boat handling skills and working applications. The centre is also an operational rescue centre site and specialises in safety boat training and in particular Kitesurf rescue and Thunder Cat rescue boat training.
The Powerboat centre works closely with the RNLI, RYA and Thunder Cat to develop & introduce powerboating courses. So whether you want to take your first steps afloat, advance your skills or train in a specialist area then contact us.
