Location information:

Tarifa is the Southern-most point of the Iberian peninsula, 30km South-West of Gibraltar and 12km from Africa across the Straits of Gibraltar.

Tarifa has acquired a reputation for being the 'Wind Capital' of Europe and for being one of the key Windsurfing and Kitesurfing spots in the world and the chosen proving ground for many companies products.

Tarifa is in Andalusia, home of flamenco music, great Tapas bars, rich in traditions, situated between 2 Oceans and 2 Continents, a land of vivid colours and strong contrasts.

Although Tarifa has a long, interesting history, visitors nowadays are mainly interested in kitesurfing and windsurfing. Tarifa is constantly windswept making it a decent year round, short-haul flight destination for adventure sports & water sports.

With an abundance of other activities, good food & accommodation and great night life during the mid & high seasons, a visit to Tarifa is always lots of fun with something for everyone.

The Wind:

• Levante & Poniente: Total opposite wind directions
• Levante: North-East / East, side-off / off-shore from the left
• Poniente: South-West / westerly, side-on / side shore from the right
• Best months for wind: May – Oct: 65 - 70% of days Bft. force 4+
• Poniente: 12 – 25 knots
• Levante: 15 – 45 knots
• Most used kite size: 7 / 9 & 12m
• Most used sails: 3 – 5m

Water:

• 16 - 18 °C
• Choppy water & shore break
• Winter months & Poniente bring good swells
• During Spring tides, sections of Los Lances beach become shallow, flat water lagoons as the tide comes in

Kitesurfing spots in Tarifa:

• During low season, you can kite surf anywhere along Los Lances beach from Tarifa town (Football stadium, Balneario) to Dos Mares Hotel, Arte Vida (near the Hurricane Hotel)
• Long, wide sandy beach with pebbles in some areas, rocks at Arte Vida & Hurricane
• Good in Poniente
• Some nice waves for surfing and downwind kitesurfing back to Tarifa with Poniente wind
• During high season, kitesurf zones are enforced:
• The largest kite surf zone is near Dos Mares Hotel
• Other kitesurfing zone is at Valdevaqueros / Punta Paloma (10kms from Tarifa town)
• With Levante wind, Valdevaqueros is the only option for kitesurfing unless a rescue boat is on standby
• Valdevaqueros is a large sandy bay offering some protection for kitesurfing in Levante wind
• Levante wind can be very strong and gusty and lessons are not always possible
• The kite school will advise on the best location for kite lessons on any particular day

The apartments are exactly in-between the 2 Club Mistral centres, on the inland side. You take a small road inland to reach these idyllic apartments. As the name suggests, the apartments are surrounded by beautiful vegetation.

Approx. 6 km from Tarifa, right next to the Hurricane Club Mistral Windsurfing Centre

• Punta Sur is not directly on the sea front but on the other side of the main coast road
