Location information:
Jericoacoara & Prea are located 300km (190 miles) North-West of Fortaleza in a vast coastal dune area on the North-Eastern coast of Brazil, (Ceara Province).
Jericoacoara is just 15mins away from Prea and is much larger than Prea. Jericoacoara is world famous for it’s beauty and as a world-class Windsurfing (& now Kitesurfing) destination.
The night-life is also more happening in Jericoacoara than in Prea – there is a great selection of excellent restaurants to choose from (Brazilian, Italian, French) and bars that offer live Reggae music and Forro dancing.
The night-life is still in keeping with the rest of Jericoacoara, very chilled and relatively untouched by mass-tourism. Remember, this is a water sports paradise, to relax and unwind. If it’s a Carnival you’re looking for, you’re a long way too far north! There are no big night clubs anywhere near.

Wind:
- Offshore is the prevailing wind direction in Jericoacoara Bay
- 15 – 35 knots from June – January
- Best months from August – January: 95 - 100% of days Bft. Force 4+
- Most used kite sizes: 7 or 9m
- March to May is considered the rainy season but you’ll still get 3 days / week of wind on average
The water:
- 27 °C year round
- Choppy water in Jericoacoara with some waves (occasionally 1-2m when conditions are just right)
- Best waves in Dec - Jan
- Some great flat water spots further up the coast from Jericoacoara

Kitesurfing spots in Jericoacoara:
THE POINT:
- In front of Club Ventos is the main kitesurfing area
- Here you will find one of the smoothest waves in the north of Brazil
- On the inside the waves gently turn into flatter water
- Great for jumps, wave riding & freestyle, all in 1 surf spot
SUNSET DUNE:
- An excellent, large kitesurfing free-ride area in the bay of Jericoacoara
- An endlessly big flat-water kitesurfing area
- Sometimes there can be some gentle shore break for surfing
MALHADA:
- Expert kitesurfers ONLY - there are lot of rocks and a long walk back in the event of a problem
- This side-on beach on the other side of town (upwind of "The Point") offers some fantastic starboard jumping wave kickers
PREA is just one massive, awesome kitesurfing beach
- Kite beach Prea is just 15 – 20 mins from Jericoacoara by dune buggy / 4x4
- Blessed with reliable, consistent, side-on-shore wind almost every day for 8 months (July to January) and a massive, empty, sandy beach with few rocks and tropical warm water all year round.

The biggest advantage Prea has over Jeri for kitesurfing is the wind orientation – in Jericoacoara the wind blows off-shore whereas in Prea, the wind is side-on-shore, EVERYDAY
Prea really is a fantastic kitesurfing spot for all levels of kitesurfer, whether you want kitesurfing lessons or to free-ride

Getting to Jericoacoara:
Destination Airport should be Fortaleza International Airport (FOR)Fly direct to Fortaleza with:
TAP Air Portugal:
- TAP fly from Lisbon everyday and run connecting flights to Lisbon from most major cities
Other airlines: Indirect flights to Fortaleza
- TAM
- Lufthansa
- Air France
- As of November, Edelweiss Air will be flying from Zurich - however this is a charter airline & the route is not always available
- Arkefly (via Amsterdam - although this route is not always available). Flights can be booked online with Arkefly or with QXXL.nl
- Another option from the UK might be to fly to Natal and from there get an internal flight (with TAM or GOL www.voegol.com.br) to Fortaleza
- Charter flights to Fortaleza are also available from Verona/ Milan, Italy. A number of airlines fly directly to Fortaleza from the USA
From Fortaleza to Jericoacoara takes about 4 – 5 hours
- Mini-bus or private 4x4 transfers can be arranged. Mini-bus collection only early morning
- If flight times are later than that, either stay in Fortaleza or private transfers.
