Location information:

Karpathos is part of the Dodecanese Islands between the islands of Rhodes and Crete in Greece.

Karpathos is a narrow, elongated island divided by a mountainous spine rising over an altitude of 1200m.

The capital, Pigadia is in the South where the most modern parts of the Island are found.

Despite its wild beauty, its traditional and unspoiled character and its magnificent secluded beaches, Karpathos has not yet been invaded by mass tourism and appears like a true paradise.

The Northern part of the island has been left untouched. This is where visitors will find traditional and unspoilt Greek villages which all add to the beauty and attractiveness of Karpathos.

2 Windsurfing centres at the 2 windsurfing spots in Afiartis, an area in the southern part of the island located only a few minutes from the airport:

• Gun Bay (the main centre):
  
• High-wind location with cross-offshore conditions and when it is strong a 1m swell builds up about 500m offshore

• Chicken Bay (2nd centre):
  
• Flat-water spot in a protected location, ideal for windsurfing lesson conditions with 80m of shallow, flat water near the shore

Those who are looking for a real challenge can simply windsurf out from Gun Bay to the next bay, Devil's Bay, which lives up to its name! Here, the wind is even stronger and the glassy surface of the water is perfect for blasting and freestyle windsurfing

You can easily switch from windsurf centre to windsurf centre free of charge at any time and as often as you like
Both windsurfing bays in front of the 2 centres are under constant surveillance and a rescue boat is available for any emergencies

The Poseidon Beach Hotel is on a hill, only two bays away from the Club Mistral centre. It's best to hire a moped to get to the centre and back again. The hotel overlooks a magnificent, idyllic beach with crystal-clear water.

This very pretty, well-cared-for hotel is run by its owners. It is a pleasure to sit on the shady terrace and enjoy the view out over the water. It has its own restaurant, offering very good meals. The main building also has a TV, table tennis facilities and Internet access.

• Karpathos Island is not as famous for its night-life as is its neighbour Rhodes
• Visitors will find the few bars, mostly concentrated around the island's main port, Karpathos town Pigadia, overlooking the harbour. Here you can relax and enjoy cocktails until the very early hours
• A hike through the unspoilt, rocky landscape on the highest mountain of the island, Kali Limni is a great way to spend a non wind day, if you get one!
• Various excursions can be made on the beautiful and attractive island of Karpathos
• Olymbos village
• The mountainous village of Olymbos is the jewel of Karpathos. Its inhabitants have kept their traditional customs, dialect and costumes
• The village itself its very beautiful and has some fine examples of traditional local architecture. In this magical place time seems to have stopped
• Visit the Ancient City of Potideon
• The ruins of this ancient city can be seen in the area of Possi, the harbour of Pigadia. Tombs with ceramics dating back to the Minoan and Mycenaean periods have been brought to light as well as relics from the Prehistoric Era, testifying the existence of an ancient settlement

Getting to Karpathos, Greece:

• Fly to Karpathos Airport (AOK)
• Transfer takes only 5 – 10 minutes from Karpathos airport to destination
• The Club Mistral centre is only about 500m from the airport. Take the main road from the airport and turn right into the first available road (signposted "Club Mistral" & "Anemos"). Stay on this road and you will reach the centre after about 300 m
